The project at Logie Green Road in Canonmills, Edinburgh, is the conversion of a former charity furniture warehouse into a new residential development of 36 flats. Together, CDA Architects and Kelvin Properties plan to bring the site back into use, regenerating a former industrial building into a thriving residential community, which supports Edinburgh City Council’s wider plan to regenerate brownfield land.
The six-storey building will include a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom homes. Designed to make good use of the site, the development features private balconies, roof terraces and a shared garden space for residents to enjoy.
Sustainability was also a key part of the design from the outset, helping to future-proof the building. The development includes solar panels, rain gardens, secure bike storage and electric vehicle charging points for residents in the ground-floor car park.
Twelve affordable homes are also part of the development, accessed via their own entrance and stairwell.
Ibstock Wakerley Multi bricks were selected for the build, chosen for their varied tones and texture. They add character to the building, while still fitting in with the surrounding area, offering a new but still considered feel to the development.
This project brings a disused industrial building back into use, creating new homes in a way that’s practical, well thought out and respectful of the site’s history.
