At Ibstock, we believe that supporting the health and wellbeing of our people is essential to building a stronger, more resilient business. As awareness of physical and mental wellbeing continues to grow across the construction and manufacturing sectors, we remain committed to creating a workplace culture where every colleague feels supported.
Expanding Support with Digital Healthcare Tools
In 2024, we took a significant step forward by launching DigiCare+ from Aviva – a comprehensive digital health app available to all Ibstock employees. This tool provides free access to a range of health and wellbeing services, including:
The response has been fantastic, with over 700 colleagues downloading the app within the first six months. The app not only broadens the support we offer, but it also recognises that many people prefer the privacy and convenience of online services when it comes to managing their health.
Promoting Mental Health in Construction
Mental health remains a priority. In 2024, we continued to raise awareness of the
Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity, which offers vital support to those in the sector facing mental health challenges, physical health issues, or financial hardship.
We also saw a drop in usage of our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) from 7% in 2023 to 2.5% in 2024. While EAP remains an important part of our wellbeing offering, this shift may reflect the increasing availability and accessibility of alternative support channels, like DigiCare+.
Building a Network of Mental Health Allies
Our
Mental Health Allies programme also continues to grow, with
72 trained colleagues now in place across our sites. These individuals are a vital part of our wellbeing strategy, offering peer-to-peer support and helping to foster a culture where it’s okay to talk about mental health.
We were proud to see this programme recognised at the
Ceramics UK Pledge Awards, where judges praised Ibstock for its “
ongoing commitment to supporting individuals’ mental health across the whole company, with a concerted effort made to support employees at all sites.”Looking Ahead
As we move forward, we’ll continue to evolve our approach to health and wellbeing – embracing new tools, listening to our teams, and staying focused on creating a positive, supportive working environment for everyone at Ibstock.
